It was a wonderful night for a heartwarming dance at Glenrock High School Saturday, Feb. 7 as the fifth annual Daddy-Daughter Dance took place.
The event brought dozens of handsomly-dressed dads and their kin to the sheer cloth, chandelier and paper lantern-adorned high school commons area as the children and their elders danced their hearts out.
The night was filled with tender moments between fathers and their dressed-up daughters as they danced to the music.
Some of the youngsters had their faces buried in their dads’ stomachs and shoulders, thanks to great height differences between the pairs. Many of the girls were being spun around as they danced and enjoyed having their “dates” all to themselves.
It’s tender moments like these and the general idea of a fun night out with his daughter that Colter Macormic said he sincerely enjoyed about the night.
“For me it’s just the memories and getting to do fun, special things with her like this,” Macormic said of bringing his daughter Hadley, 4, to the event, “She’s got a little sister, so it’s nice to get out and spend time with just her so she knows she’s not forgotten.”
There were many songs played throughout the night with father-daughter themes including, “I Loved Her First” by Heartland and “My Little Girl” by Tim McGraw. The attendees could request songs for the DJs to play, however, the students running the music station eventually had to shut down the song requests, as they’d gotten so many that they wouldn’t be able to get to songs already on their set play list.
This year’s dance was Disney-themed, with a few Disney songs being played, a themed photo booth and coloring pages of Disney princesses scattered on tables around the venue.
As the clock ticked ever closer to 8 p.m., (when the event finished), the committee played their final song of the night, “Forever Young” by Alphaville.
As the voice of Marian Gold filled the high school commons, the young ladies shared tender moments with their fathers, capping off a delightful night of fun and lasting memories between them.
