Excitement is building at the Converse County Libraries in Douglas and Glenrock as the 2023 Summer Reading Season nears!

The theme this year is All Together Now and the programs for all ages will explore the positive themes of Friendship, Unity and Kindness. The season will run from June 1 throughout July, and you can find more information on our website, yourccl.org, and our respective Facebook pages. In addition, we will have printed calendars available for both libraries at the first floor service points.

June 1 is the first day to begin signing up for Summer Reading (on your Beanstack App) or by going to yourccl.beanstack.org

Be sure to indicate the age of the participant and from which library (Glenrock or Douglas) they will be participating. If you don’t have a computer or device at home, stop by the library and we will help you get set up on one of our machines.

In addition, on Thursday, June 1 from 4-7 pm, CCL Douglas will have a Kick-Off Party to add to the fun of First Thursday. We'll have bubbles, sprinklers, outside games, music, sidewalk chalk, ice cold free water and popsicles!

Summer Reading events get started immediately with a family-friendly Countywide Full Moon Hike happening on Friday, June 2.

This hike will be our annual trip up off of Boxelder Road, southeast of Glenrock. It’s a scenic, fairly easy hike which concludes in a breath-taking view of Boxelder Canyon and the rising Strawberry Full Moon. Sign up at 436-2573 (Glenrock), 358-3644 (Douglas) or email tlehner@conversecountylibrary.org

We will meet at 7:30 pm at the Platte River Access point (by the restrooms) across from Boxelder Road, County Road 90. We will then proceed as a group to the starting point of the hike. Wear comfortable walking/hiking shoes, bring jackets, water, snacks, bug spray, etc.

On Saturday, June 3, we will host a Countywide Art Show reception and Author Event at the CCL Glenrock at 2 pm. There will be tea and refreshments for this free activity. Sponsored by the Denver Botanical Gardens, the beautiful art photography in the Dreams in Bloom exhibit is created by Canary Islands-born artist Fares Micue, and will be on display at the library in Glenrock through June. In addition to the art, we have a special guest presentation by Boulder Author Tess Whitehurst with her book, “The Magic of Flowers.” Tess will have an illuminating discussion on Meditating and Connecting with Our Blossoming Allies.

It is common knowledge that a rose symbolizes love and the lotus represents spiritual awakening. In this fascinating lecture presented by Whitehurst, you will learn about meditation and communication with flowers, how to receive healing energy from flowers, and what your favorite flower says about your unique life purpose and path.

Tess is the award winning author of eleven books and four oracle decks. An intuitive counselor, energy worker, feng shui consultant and speaker, she has appeared on the Bravo TV show Flipping Out and her writing has been featured in Writer's Digest, Llewellyn's annuals and Spirit and Destiny magazine, to name a few. She is also the founder and facilitator of Wisdom Circle, an online spiritual community and learning hub. Discover more about her at  www.tesswhitehurst.com

AND! The Glenrock Library will have a KICKOFF PARTY in conjunction with the Grand Re-opening of our outdoor Courtyard Space, which now has a stage and improved landscaping.

The event is June 8 from 5-7 pm, and will feature free Oompah Ice, entertainment and games. Live music will be provided by the always popular singer/songwriter JBird Shogren. Shogren has performed at Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, numerous stages in Europe, and even represented Wyoming one year at the International Blues Festival in Scotland!

In addition, The Lion’s Club will be on hand, with their delicious burgers and dogs for sale! Bring along chairs, hats, sunscreen and bug spray.

We also have an exciting fundraiser going on at the Converse County Libraries, sponsored by our CCL Foundation Board, which funds special projects and events year-round for us! It’s a 50/50 Cash Raffle, and you may get tickets for a chance to win at either branch at one ticket for $1 or six tickets for $5. The winner will be drawn on June 9 during the Jackalope City Art Show Reception and Awards Night at Your CCL Douglas. Participants don’t have to be present to win, but need to claim their prize within seven days of the drawing.
