For those of you who enjoy the frozen meals, you may have noticed a considerable decrease in the amount we have on hand. I apologize for any inconvenience that this causes for any of you, however I’m sure you will understand the reason for this. We are only permitted to have a 5 percent waste (leftovers) which are used to make the frozen meals. On average, this amounts to us being able to make three frozen meals per day, so the cost for any meals beyond that has to come directly out of our local funds. I have been watching this cost closely, and have discovered that every month the cost to make these frozen meals is costing us a minimum of $2,000; we are only generating about $400 in revenue from these meals each month, which means we take a loss of $1,600 every month minimally or close to $20,000 a year. We simply cannot afford that kind of loss. Again, I apologize but it is my hope that this explanation puts it all in perspective.

January commodities are available for pick-up. This months commodities are frozen blueberries, walnut pieces, milk and oats. The Commodity Program is not limited to senior citizens. If you would like more information about the Commodity program, or to see if you qualify, please contact Nancie Fink at 436-9442.
